Premise

Rome never fell. Earth has had guardians taking care of its history carefuly since the roman empire rose to power. These beings were called the 'Potentia'. While the truth about them was not known amoungst the romans, a religious sect known as the 'Potentia Secuutus' ("Power Followers").

Races

The only races in the game are the humans and the guardians, the diversity of characters in the game comes from the diversity of the sects/geneology of humanity, not in the discovery of non-human life as is present in many other science fiction settings.

If you want aliens, watch star trek. If you want something slightly more believable ... expand on the praelium universe.

Physical Universe

We would like to treat the universe as semi-infinite, ie. it expands from a single point in every dimension. Practically this isnt usable.

There would be 4 main classes of systems in praelium:

  • Core Worlds - Worlds that are heavily under the control of the empire. All systems are patrolled and crimes are punished. Piracy and crime in these systems is a very lethal occupation, and will pay very highly ... your life or untold profits.
  • Border Worlds - These worlds are still patrolled by the empire, however they recieve less focus from the emperor and the level of reinforcements generally depend on the favour the current govenor has found with the emperor and the senators. Senators quite often use the border worlds to hold the bulk of their private armies and as a staging point for attacks to the rim worlds.
  • Rim Worlds - The empire, having learnt from leasons on earth in expanding too fast, has decided to leave these far flung worlds to their own devices, which suits the profiteers and less reputible of the universe just fine. Highly elite empirial fighters will come here only when their targets are of high enough importance to the empire for them to risk such a journey.
  • The Unknown - If you make it this far you have gone to far! Nothing will protect you here, good luck, you'll need it.
